1. Q. I keep getting a general protection (GP) fault or an
unrecoverable application error (UAE) when I close print
preview in version 3.0 of Microsoft Project for Windows. Why is
this occurring and how can I correct the problem?
A. This problem is related to using the Rollup option in the Gantt
chart palette. When you close print preview, you may receive a
UAE in Microsoft Windows operating system version 3.0 or a GP
fault in Microsoft Windows operating system version 3.1.
Similar problems, such as your machine hanging, may also occur
when you choose Print Preview from the File menu or when you
print a Gantt chart. This problem occurs when the Gantt Chart
palette definitions cause a subordinate task to place more than
one rollup marker or bar on its associated task.
For example, suppose that in the Gantt chart palette two
separate line items are designated as Rolled Up in the Show For
column, one from Scheduled Start to Scheduled Finish and the
other from Planned Start to Planned Finish. If any detail task
in the Gantt chart is then marked for rollup and has dates in
the Scheduled Start and Finish fields and the Planned Start and
Finish fields, the GP fault or UAE occurs when you close print
preview.
This problem has been corrected in a maintenance release of
Microsoft Project. This maintenance release is called Microsoft
Project version 3.0a. To obtain this maintenance release of
Microsoft Project, please call Microsoft Consumer Sales at
(800) 426-9400.
2. Q. When I print a Gantt chart or a resource graph on my PostScript
printer, the patterns I chose to display in the bars of the
graph all look the same. Is there a way to make these patterns
more clearly distinguishable?
A. This problem occurs because the PostScript printer driver for
Microsoft Windows operating system version 3.1 prints the fill
patterns at 300 dots-per-inch (dpi) graphics resolution. There
is no way to print these patterns at a lower resolution.
To work around this problem, use one of the first five shading
patterns in the Patterns box in the Palette dialog box. Because
these patterns are printed in various shades of gray, they
should be more distinguishable than the patterns listed in the
bottom half of the Patterns box.
NOTE: The PostScript driver for the Microsoft Windows operating
system version 3.0 prints these fill patterns at 75 dpi; as a
result, they are more clearly distinguishable.
3. Q. I am having problems printing to my Epson(TM) dot-matrix
printer when I use 14 7/8-by-11-inch fanfold paper. It appears
that the graphics are being wrapped from the right edge of the
paper back to the left edge. How can I prevent this problem
from occurring?
A. If you are using Microsoft Windows operating system version 3.1
and printing on an Epson LQ-1000, LQ-1050, or LQ-2550 printer
from Microsoft Project version 3.0 for Windows, the text and
graphics may appear to wrap around the page from the right edge
to the left edge on U.S. Standard Fanfold paper.
These printers have an unprintable region along one of the
default margins. Microsoft Project does not adjust the margins
to compensate for this problem. To work around the problem, you
must set new margins. To do this, choose Page Setup from the
File menu, and use the following settings:
- For portrait orientation, set the top, bottom, and left
margins to .25 inch, and set the right margin to 2.5 inches.
- For landscape orientation, set the bottom, left, and right
margins to .25 inch and set the top margin to 2.5 inches.
